The "Fiestas de Primavera" are celebrated after the Holy Week every year and they are considered the most important holidays in this city (sharing this honour with "La Feria" at the beginnig of September). The "Fiestas de Primavera" are the more recreational continuation of the religious holidays, the Holy Week.

There are two special days in this week, Tuesday and Saturday:

  • On Tuesday we celebrate "El bando de la Huerta". The journey is an exaltation of the orchard traditions. Most people from Murcia go out the whole day dressed with their native costumes.
  • Next Saturday "El Entierro de la Sardina" takes place. It is a parade, and Murcia is crowded everywhere. The previous days, groups of people called "sardineros" cheer the city up with their street bands. After the floats, a lot of toys are given out and the "Sardine" is burnt, next to the "old brigde". At the end you can enjoy a great firework display. This means the end of the holidays.
